Chairs Report August - September 2017

Highlights

Short Shorts Film Awards, Kaipatiki Public Arts Trust, 20 August

Enabled by the Kaipatiki Public Arts Trust (KPAT), this short film making contest received 20 entries for local Kaipatiki schools.  The theme was Kaipatiki Bites.  Over 120 young people participated in creating short films that build on the theme.  For me the pride in Kaipatiki was evident in every short film.  To view the short films, go to YouTube, by searching for KPAT Short Shorts 2017.  The winners included Willow Park Primary School, Northcote Intermediate and highly commended to Wairau Special School.  Support of this project was funded through the Kaipatiki Local Board.

Mayoral visit to Kaipatiki, 25 August

Mayor Phil Goff spent a morning in Kaipatiki, hosted by the Kaipatiki Community Facilities Trust, and attended by our councillors Chris Darby and Richard Hills, and board members Danielle Grant, John Gillon, Kay McIntyre and Lindsay Waugh, and the Kaipatiki Youth Development Trust.  A wonderful opportunity to share the community development initiatives with the Mayor and to visit the recently completed Birkenhead town centre lookout – Kaimataara o Wai Manawa.

Bayview’s Spinella Reserve, Yarn Bombing, 9 September

Inspired to brighten up the local park, community Bayview Craft Mob leader, Ro Stott, lead a team of local knitters to create this wonderful collection of fence coverings for Spinella Reserve.  Over several months of planning, and a huge amount of local creativity this project was completed for all to enjoy. This is a wonderful example of a community empowered project.  Funded by the Kaipatiki Local Board.
