Marlborough Park’s time to shine

A great destination for North Shore children during the school holidays

Continued investment, started in 2015 by Kaipātiki Local Board, is slowly but surely transforming Marlborough Park in Glenfield into one of Auckland’s most exciting youth destinations.

This month, the park’s youth space area was completed and opened, delivering a new climbing module, new seating and swing seats.

This follows on from the delivery of an improved basketball court and perimeter paths, new junior playground with shade, flying fox, park furniture, plantings, improved drainage and repurposed hall into a new youth centre in 2017.

The next phase of works, set to start in November, will deliver a new and improved skatepark along with improved drainage and landscape elements. Those works are expected to take around six months to complete.

The final phase of planned works involves a renewal of the park’s carpark. It will involve resurfacing, improving drainage, parking layout and pedestrian access. These works are scheduled to start at the end of next year.

Kaipātiki Local Board Chair John Gillon says Marlborough Park is a great place to take the kids these school holidays.

“It’s sizable, open space with a mature grove of trees also makes it a great place for family picnics and natural play.”
